The TONGAAT AND VERULAM HINDU UNITY FORUM jointly conducted a mass HAWAN  on the banks of the UMHLOTI RIVER. A large crowd of different religious groups ( 300 devotees ) gathered at 06h30. The APS and VDS of VERULAM were well represented. The program commenced with numerous mantras relating to rain. It was clear that all came with a vision of purpose and intent. The priest commended all in accepting a single vision . He reminded everyone that in a time of common difficulty , we join together and this unity will result in our prayer for rain to be realized. He also warned that this should be a continuous process.

Pandit DHARMANAND RAGHUBIR was offered an opportunity to recite appropriate mantras from the VEDAS. His presentation was well received by all present. He selected mantras from the RIGVED and the YAJURVED that were appropriate to rain. He also explained the meaning of SHANTI ( peace) . He explained that SHANTI appears several times in the VEDAS. This is done to express harmony in all spheres of existence.

The audience were treated to a wonderful breakfast with a wide variety of savories , sandwiches and tea/ coffee.
